Future Thinking and Happiness in TA: Five Types of Happiness

In the Nordic tradition, happiness is not loud. It is found in quiet moments of genuine cThis workshop introduces a futures-oriented perspective on happiness, integrating Transactional Analysis with Joseph Voros’ Futures Cone framework. Participants will explore different types of happiness (possible, probable, preferable, plausible, and projected) and examine how life scripts shape their expectations and experience of well-being.

Through guided reflection and interactive exercises, the workshop invites participants to recognize how different types of futures relate to their experience of happiness, and to identify inherited life scripts that may limit self-authored joy. Using TA concepts such as ego states, re-parenting, and script awareness, participants will explore how to move from probable to preferable happiness: from what feels predictable to what is consciously chosen.

The workshop also introduces practical ways to apply futures thinking in psychotherapy and coaching, supporting participants in creating a personalized roadmap toward more sustainable, intentional, and meaningful happiness.

Participants will leave with increased clarity about their relationship to happiness, deeper awareness of script-driven limitations, and concrete steps for cultivating more self-authored futures both in their own lives and in their work with clients.
