The Nordic Transactional Analysis Conference 2026 – Where Physis Finds Light

The Nordic Transactional Analysis Conference 2026 is an online gathering for transactional analysts, therapists, counsellors, coaches, organisational professionals, and anyone interested in deepening understanding of Transactional Analysis. The event takes place on November 7–8, 2026, hosted in collaboration by the Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish TA associations.

The theme, “Where Physis Finds Light,” invites us to explore Eric Berne’s concept of physis — the inner life-giving force that drives growth, change, healing, and human development in individuals, relationships, organisations, and communities.

In Nordic culture, physis is strengthened through a deep connection with nature, the value of quiet presence, and social systems that support wellbeing and equality. These values are reflected in the Nordic countries’ consistent ranking among the world’s happiest nations, including holding the top position for nine consecutive years. Yet the Nordic story also holds a paradox: alongside safety and wellbeing, many people struggle with loneliness, burnout, disconnection, and loss of meaning.

In the Nordics, wellbeing is often understood not as constant comfort or achievement, but as a grounded sense of balance, contentment, and sufficiency. This creates fertile ground for physis — the vital energy Transactional Analysis seeks to understand and nurture. Rooted in ancient Greek ideas of nature and organic growth, Berne’s concept of physis points toward the human capacity for health, autonomy, connection, and renewal.

Life in the Nordic region unfolds between contrasts: long, dark winters and endless summer light, dense forests and frozen seas, silence and social closeness, independence and longing for connection. These contrasts shape both daily life and the Nordic psyche, offering a context for exploring resilience, relational depth, reflection, and transformation. The shifting balance of light and darkness influences energy, mood, and social connection—creating both challenges and opportunities for reflection and renewal.

At this conference, we invite participants to explore how Transactional Analysis resonates with Nordic ways of living and relating. How do calm resilience, measured contentment, relational honesty, giving space in relationships, and authenticity foster personal growth, relational intelligence, and professional development? How can physis—Eric Berne’s concept of the innate life force driving growth, change, and healing in individuals and relationships—find expression in the face of modern challenges?

Through workshops, keynotes, and interactive dialogues, we will explore how physis manifests in ego states, scripts, relationships, organisations, and communities. We will examine how TA-based awareness, contracting, and AdultAdult communication can help physis “find light” — becoming recognised, supported, and sustained even amid adversity.

In the face of global challenges such as climate change, inequality, rising populism, increasing polarization, conflicts, war and social fragmentation, the conference also invites reflection on how Transactional Analysis can contribute to more compassionate, sustainable, and connected ways of living and working. We will consider how physis may express itself not only through personal transformation, but also through collective care for others, communities, and the natural world.

Whether you work in psychotherapy, counselling, coaching, education, or organisational development, or are simply interested in learning more about Transactional Analysis from the perspective of personal growth and selfunderstanding, the Nordic TA Conference 2026 offers a shared space for reflection, learning, and connection. Together, we will explore how Transactional Analysis can support wellbeing, participation, relational awareness, and ecological consciousness — grounded in the belief that within each person lives a growing force seeking health, connection, vitality, and meaning.
