Where Physis Finds Light – Transactional Analysis and the quiet power of Nordic happiness
The Nordic Transactional Analysis Conference 2026 is an online gathering for transactional analysts, therapists, coaches, and organisational professionals worldwide. The event will take place on November 7–8, 2026, hosted in collaboration by the Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish TA associations.
The theme, “Where Physis Finds Light,” invites us to explore Eric Berne’s idea of physis—the inner, life-giving force that drives growth, change, and healing in individuals, relationships, and organisations.
In Nordic culture, physis comes to life through a deep connection with nature, the value of quiet presence, and social systems that support wellbeing and equality. It is no coincidence that Finland has been named the world’s happiest country nine times in recent years.
In the Nordics, well-being is more than comfort or transient pleasure—it is a grounded, lasting sense of sufficiency and contentment. This quiet satisfaction with life provides fertile ground for physis, the energy that Transactional Analysis seeks to understand and nurture. Rooted in the ancient Greek concept of nature and organic growth, Berne’s physis represents the vital force propelling human beings toward health, autonomy, and connection.
Life in the Nordic region unfolds between extremes: long, dark winters and endless summer light; dense forests and frozen fjords; sudden storms and still horizons. These contrasts shape both daily life and the Nordic psyche, offering a rich context for exploring resilience, growth, and relational depth. The shifting rhythms of light and darkness influence energy, mood, and social connection—providing both challenges and opportunities for reflection and renewal.
At this conference, we invite participants to explore how Transactional Analysis principles resonate with Nordic ways of living. How do calm resilience, reflective practice, and measured contentment foster personal growth, relational intelligence, and professional development? How can TA illuminate and strengthen the “quiet power of Nordic happiness”—creating environments where physis is recognised, nurtured, and allowed to flourish in therapy, organisations, and communities?
Through workshops, keynotes, and interactive dialogues, we will examine how physis manifests in ego states and scripts, how it functions in high-stress and organisational settings, and how TA-based contracting, awareness, and Adult–Adult communication can help physis “find light”—becoming visible, acknowledged, and sustained in growth and resilience.
In the face of today’s global challenges—climate change, inequality, the resurgence of populism, increasing polarization and social fragmentation —our theme also invites reflection on how Transactional Analysis can contribute to more compassionate, sustainable, and connected ways of living and working. We will consider how physis can express itself not only in personal transformation, but also in collective care for others, communities, and the planet.Whether you work in psychotherapy, coaching, education, or organisational development, the Nordic TA Conference 2026 offers a shared space to reflect, learn, and connect. Together, we will explore how Transactional Analysis can support Nordic values of wellbeing, participation, and ecological awareness—all grounded in the simple yet powerful belief that within each person lives a growing force seeking health, connection, and meaning.
